YouTuber Gets Special Issuance After Mental Health Denial

YouTuber Xyla Foxlin is back flying after she received a special issuance medical last week. Foxlin went public earlier this year after she was denied a medical after the placement of an IUD caused a bout of hormonal-related depression for which she sought treatment. The issue was fully resolved, but the FAA denied her medical. Foxlin joined the Pilot Mental Health Campaign and launched her own online campaign that helped the campaign get legislation passed to force reform of the FAA’s handling of mental health issues for pilots. Her video announcement of the special issuance is below.

Good on her and the Pilot Mental Health Campaign … lie-to-fly actually incentivizes unhealthy piloting, the opposite of what the FAA ostensibly are seeking.

Xyla, way to go! Onward & upward for you.
Seeking treatment for temporary depression and being transparent about it on ones medical certificate application should not ever result in a default judgement based on paper evidence only. One size does not fit all.

Is any more information available about the legislation that was passed?

If we didn’t live in such a ‘sue me’ world and/or the gov’t stood behind its workforce and let them universally perform their duties equally, there would be a lot less of misguided or misapplied application of regulations.
