Surveillance video has emerged of the in-flight breakup of a Cold War-era An-22 that preceded its crash into a reservoir in Russia last week. As we reported, all seven crew died in the crash of what was reported to be the last flyable airframe of the type. It was being test flown after repairs, according to Russian media. The aircraft appeared to be in a rapid descent when the empennage buckled and the tail separated. As the plane broke in half, three objects, possibly attached to parachutes, left the falling aircraft. The massive four-engine turboprop with counterrotating propellers first flew in 1965.
