Spartan Flight Academy continues to grow with a recent order adding seven new Piper Archer LXs to its fleet, which centers around Garmin G1000 NXi-equipped aircraft. That fleet also includes Cessna 182s, 172s, and a 150, plus a Beech Baron for multiengine training.
The Texas-based school, at the Grand Prairie Municipal Airport (KGPM) in the Dallas-Ft. Worth Metro area, recently secured Part 141 approval in May. Students may still opt into a Part 61 program if that flexibility suits their goals. To complement in-aircraft training, the academy uses a Redbird FMX motion AATD.
The former entity, Aviator Air Flight School, was purchased by Spartan Education Group in October 2025. Rob Polston is CEO of Spartan Education Group, while Robert Werderich is executive vice president of Spartan Flight Operations. In case the Spartan name rings a bell, the academy operates independently from Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The operation adds to Spartan’s footprint across the country, with other locations in Broomfield, Colorado (KBJC); Watkins, Colorado (KCFO); Inglewood (KLAX); and Riverside (KRAL), California, and partner Illinois Aviation Academy in West Chicago (KDPA). Spartan had added its first new Archer under the new ownership in March.
