Roxanne’s Rules for Better Plane Maintenance

25 safety and career principles every aircraft technician and owner should live by.

As a new generation of aircraft techs hits the shop floors, Roxanne Rosado—an A&P/IA, FAA FSDO liaison, and the head of airworthiness for TBX (a digital resource platform for shops and technicians)—is taking a stand for safer aircraft maintenance. She has written “Roxanne’s Rules: 25 career principles every aviation mechanic should live by,” which reinforces that turning out exceptional work is far more than being a good wrench. There is regulatory paperwork that affects the value of the aircraft, the reality of having to accept dirty jobs no matter your ranking at the shop, and the importance of resisting AI for airworthiness and safety decision-making. And no matter what you do, don’t push an aircraft out the door if you have a nagging feeling something isn’t right.

In this episode of the Smart Aviator podcast on AvBrief, Larry Anglisano and Roxanne Rosado discuss some of the things every airplane technician and aircraft owner should consider. Download the full list of Roxanne’s maintenance rules at airworthy.com

I have a great deal of respect for anyone attempting to influence and better the human element of aircraft maintenance, but much of it is like telling a pilot “Go be a better pilot.”

What is listed as #1 and very much worthy of discussion, however, is the notion of being a “nice person.” That by itself has the power to positively enhance all aspects of disciplined maintenance and wouldn’t hurt a few pilots either.

This Video Discussion belongs in a TBX SMSVP Forum. Because there’s no discussion in this video or on TBX’s website of the FAA’s “TOOL” in the Aviation Safety Toolbox. You folks must not know what the Safety Management System (SMS) is and how it falls right into TBX lap?

https://www.faa.gov/faa-aviation-safety-outreach/safety-management-system

What a great opportunity for TBX to charge an Annual membership fee for ‘contributors’ to the TBX SMS Forum. Many highly experienced Owners and Mechanics would like to share a story or two with the Aircraft Owner/Operator and Maintenance Community. TBX’s mission should be to get the TBX SMS Forum discussion, conclusions and safety information out to every Owner, Operator, Builder and Mechanic. There’s a new generation of “Sport Aviation” coming. SMS forum discussion with Aviation focused “Root Cause” moderation is what’s going to make Sport Aviation successful.

Roxanne, it would be a pleasure to watch you on videos of topics from the forum.

What an opportunity to replace do nothing AOPA 🙂
