A 40-year veteran Icelandair captain may get a chat with police instead of a water arch for his final flight with the airline. The airline turned the unidentified pilot into Iceland police after he made a 300-foot pass in a Boeing 757 over his home town of Vestmannaeyjar on an island off southern Iceland on Saturday. The flight originated in Frankfurt and was headed for Keflavik when the captain headed for the weeds with an unknown number of passengers onboard. The airline’s chief pilot, Linda Gunnarsdóttir, said she assumes the pilot checked with the passengers before lowering the nose but she couldn’t say for sure. He did not, however, check with her and in addition to reporting the incident to the police the airline is doing its own investigation.

BILD in generally regarded as Germany’s top “some stupid crap happening somewhere” news source. Nonetheless, someone will toss the book at this guy. Highly questionable if anyone would have approved the stunt in advance, however the captain got his 5 minutes of fame and everyone knows he’s finished with his career now.
I always wonder how I’d behave if I find I’m no longer able to fly, what I’d do the last time I strapped the airplane on. The area where I live has too many river valleys, and I’ve seen “633 Squadron” perhaps too many times….. 🙂

I was on the Island in 2024 and took a look at the airport there if he did the flight down the runway I don’t think anything will come of it.
Stupid yes but entirely legal.
We used to do an instrument approach on our flight training Finny flight in the Navy as a section down the runway at DH of 200’ AGL and 300 knots our legal speed below 10,000′
