Passersby Save Helicopter Pilot

Police in London, Ontario, say a young helicopter pilot owes his lift to a couple of passersby who pulled him from the burning wreck of his Bell JetRangerII. The 21-year-old pilot was spraying a wheat field northeast of London when he ran into trouble. The aircraft went down in the field and two passing motorists wasted little time. “There was a lone male pilot, and he was extricated by two good Samaritans while the helicopter was still on fire. They pulled him out,” said OPP Sgt. Ryan Griffith. “They saved a life today, no question about it.”

The pilot was taken to a hospital in London with non-life-threatening injuries, but there have been no updates on his condition. The accident occurred near the community of Thorndale, which is about 100 miles west of Buffalo, New York.
