Paint Shop Survey

The editors of Smart Aviator and AvBrief are conducting a satisfaction survey on aircraft paint work. If you had your aircraft painted in the last few years we want to know how it went, including project costs, downtime, the shop’s ability to communicate and deal with warranty fixes, the level of quality when it came to the aircraft’s reassembly, the quality of the paint job and how it’s holding up, and anything else you’d like to share in hopes that other buyers can learn from it. We’ll report on our findings in an upcoming paint shop satisfaction report in Smart Aviator.

This an excellent topic. I that there is a opportunity for a service function where an “agent” who can help select among several paint shops could follow up with shop, inspect final paint and become a customer resource for resolution of issues. Or some voluntary industry standard that has real post paint inspections to support.

I have seen many poor paint jobs on certified planes. Saw a 182 that had literally had sand in the final finish on the 80% of the topcoat. It was like sand paper. Painter, said, yeah that happens.
