NTSB News Talk: Bangor Maine Challenger 650 Jet Crash

In Episode 22 of NTSB News Talk, Max Trescott and Rob Mark talk about N10KJ, a Bombardier Challenger 650 that crashed in Bangor, Maine. They discuss what’s known about it, and past crashes of Challengers with contaminated wings.

Later they discuss NTSB reports for these aircraft accidents:

  • American Aviation AA-1A (N9439L) near Alamogordo
  • Cirrus SR20 (N814) in Watertown
  • Beech C23 (N76SB) in Virginia
  • Mooney M20C (N1204X) in Texas
  • Cessna 206 (N460DC) in California
  • Piper PA-30 Twin Comanche (N8693Y) in Illinois
  • Beechcraft 95 Travel Air (N369BB) training flight in Alabama

Some of the issues discussed include unstable approaches, late go-arounds, loss of control close to the ground, pilots pushing past safe margins and multiple cases of pilots using over-the-counter antihistamines for which the FAA has required wait times before flying.
