More New England Air Museum Preservations

The coverage from our exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the preservation floor at the New England Air Museum in Connecticut continues. In this segment, museum aircraft restoration lead Bob Vizzola shows off a Kaman K-16B, an experimental VTOL (vertical takeoff and landing) built for the U.S. Navy in 1959 to test tilt-wing technology. There’s also the CBY-3 Burnelli Loadmaster built by the Canadian Car and Foundry as a lifting-fuselage aircraft. Moving outside, you can’t miss the Lockheed TV-2 Shooting Star jet training aircraft that entered service in 1957. Our thanks to the museum for accommodating our coverage.

I have to give a big thumbs up to this museum. They have some special airframes and a lot of others that – well – let’s be truthful – others also have. But their overall approach (pun intended) to catering for all age groups and – in my experience – some really remarkable docents and guides. Well worth a visit. Especially as you can fly in.
