ANR headsets can easily break the bank for many penny-pinching student pilots who’d just as soon spend the money on flight time. KORE Aviation is targeting that crowd and has sold thousands of utilitarian headsets to partner flight schools and end users through retail outlets, including Sporty’s and others. The KA-1 model is a passive, no-frills set that has good build quality and an affordable $225 price. To see how the set performs, AvBrief’s Larry Anglisano along with Rick Montero have been flying with the KA-1 and initial impressions are favorable. Just as important is the good communication and support from US-based KORE Aviation.

About a year ago I bought a pair of these for the rear headsets in my plane, which don’t get used as often as the fronts. They work fine and none of my passengers have complained about comfort or function. They’re not as nice as the Lightspeed Sierras I have up front, but at one third the price they’re a great value.
