The recent approval of the Modernization of Special Airworthiness Certification (MOSAIC) has redrawn the world in which general aviation and recreational pilots fly. Those with a Sport Pilot certificate will now be able to fly aircraft with much higher performance, including those with retractable gear, at 200 mph, both day and night (with the proper sign-off and at least BasicMed for night flying). Legacy flight training publisher Gleim Aviation has updated its publications that address this new category.
Gleim was an early provider of online and written materials for the Sport Pilot certification when it was first introduced in September 2004. With the passage of the new MOSAIC regulations, however, the Sport Pilot certification is a whole new world. Gleim has revamped its entire Sport Pilot program to encapsulate these major changes.
These offerings are not limited to preparation for the written exam. Gleim has put together a Sport Pilot kit specifically designed to take students from ground zero, through the knowledge learning process, all the way to passing the written exam, the oral exam, and even the checkride. It says the kit contains everything you need, except for an airplane and an instructor, to become a Sport Pilot.
The kit includes online test prep, a FAR/AIM book, a logbook, a pilot handbook, a plotter, an E6B computer (really a handy slide rule, remember those?), a flight maneuvers and practical test prep, a Sport Pilot FAA knowledge test book, a syllabus book, and a training record book. The kit price is $200.
