GE Aerospace will ship its 500th Passport turbofan engine later this month and has also received certification for the latest Passport version, which will power the developmental Bombardier Global 8000 business jet. In this most recent configuration, the Passport will deliver 18,920 pounds of thrust and contribute to making the Global 8000 the world’s fastest business jet at a top speed of Mach 0.95, according to GE.
Stephen McCullough, Bombardier’s senior vice president of engineering and product development, said the Global 8000 “boasts the fastest maximum operating speed and an impressive range of 8,000 nautical miles, [which] unlocks even more popular city pair possibilities, bringing the world closer and closer.”
Melvyn Heard, GE Aerospace, Commercial Engines and Services general manager for business aviation, noted the Passport’s 99.9% dispatch reliability record. He said, “From Bombardier’s Global 7500 business jet to the Global 8000 today, GE Aerospace has been proud to partner with Bombardier in moving business aviation travel faster, more efficiently and farther than ever before.”
