Flight Schools Association of North America (FSANA) has changed its name to Flight Schools Association International (FSAI) to better reflect the makeup of the group. “We didn’t go looking for the international market,” said FSAI President Bob Rockmaker. “The international market found us.” The organization held its annual convention last week in San Diego and drew representatives from hundreds of flight schools and businesses that supply the schools. “It’s the single largest one-stop shop for seeing the supply chain for ab initio flight training schools. AvBrief was among the exhibitors.
Among the major issues being discussed at the convention was the FAA’s intention to modernize the rules for Part 141 flight training. The agency asked for comments about potential changes and is hosting online public meetings for guidance on the direction of the amendments on March 10 and 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. EDT. Registration information is here. “Modernizing part 141 is essential for addressing challenges pertaining to certification, certification management, examining authority, and evolving technology and learning methods,” the notice says. “The objective of modernizing part 141 is to increase safety and create a foundation for a more structured and robust training environment to aid in the reduction of general aviation fatal accidents.”
