A deadheading flight attendant on the Endeavor Air CRJ-900 that crashed in Toronto last February is suing her airline, claiming it negligently put an “inexperienced” pilot at the controls. Vanessa Miles, 67, of Detroit, and 79 others on the plane were able to get out of the wreck but she was one of a few with serious injuries. She says she suffered a fractured shoulder, traumatic brain injury, back injuries and mental health issues because of the crash and wants $75 million in damages plus costs. She still works for the airline but hasn’t been able to go back to work.
The Canadian Transportation Safety Board preliminary report said the CRJ was descending at 1098 feet per minute when the right main hit the runway and collapsed. The right wing then detached and the plane rolled inverted, leaving the passengers hanging from their seatbelts. The pilot flying was the FO had been with the airline for a year and had 1422.3 hours total time and 418.7 hours on type.
