One Crew Member Survives Crash of Challenger in Bangor (Updated)

One crew member survived among eight people aboard a Bombardier Challenger 600 that crashed on takeoff from Bangor, Maine, on Sunday. It was snowing at the time. Visibility was reportedly 0.75 miles at the time of the crash and there was a 10-knot wind from the northeast. The 11,440-foot runway (former Air Force base) is oriented 15/33 and the aircraft was cleared to take off on 33. The accident occurred about 7:45 p.m. and the FAA and NTSB are at the scene. The aircraft was reportedly destroyed by fire. The airport was closed by the crash. The aircraft is registered to a limited liability corporation in Houston that has ties to a law firm that is a major supporter of Texas football. It had flown to Bangor from Texas. I am based in the same hangar as these guys. I have not been able to find out the crew names yet.

It’s worth taking a listen to the LiveATC files. Apparently two airliners we deiced prior and failed their pre-contamination checks, and went back to the gates.
