Searchers say they’ve found debris from a Canadian air ambulance that went down off Nantucket early Saturday morning. The Gulfstream G100 was on its way from Bermuda to Boston with two Canadian pilots, two Canadian medical technicians, a patient, and a relative of the patient when contact was lost about 1:30 a.m. Officials didn’t say what debris they found but they were able to establish that it was from the missing aircraft. The crew apparently declared an emergency and a controller asked if they were “coming in blind” before contact was lost.
The aircraft was operated by Latitude Air Ambulance of Hamilton, Ontario, near Toronto. The company contracts with insurance companies and health agencies to repatriate people who have had medical issues while traveling. When contact was lost, a fleet of ships and aircraft from the U.S. Coast Guard was dispatched to search for the plane. It’s not clear how much debris has been recovered and there has been no announcement about finding the aircraft occupants.
