Canada Inviting Foreign Aviation Professionals To Immigrate

Canada is opening the door to aviation professionals as part of its revamp of immigration standards. The country has sharply reduced immigration in the past year to address a crippling housing shortage that was brought on, in part, by an increase in immigration over the past decade. As part of the restructuring, Canada has expanded its “Express Entry” category for highly skilled prospective immigrants, and aviation industry labor issues are clearly top of mind among government officials. “By refining Express Entry to focus on the skills our communities truly need, we are strengthening our labor market, supporting provincial priorities and ensuring newcomers can contribute from day one,” said Lena Metlege Diab, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship.

Pilots are named twice in a press release announcing new categories in the Express Entry system. Canada says it’s looking for “candidates with work experience in transport occupations, including pilots, aircraft mechanics and inspectors.” It also mentions it wants to attract “highly skilled foreign military applicants recruited by the Canadian Armed Forces in key roles such as military doctors, nurses and pilots.” The other major category covered in the news release is healthcare workers, including doctors, of which there is a major shortage in Canada.

Just a brief advisory to any who might be unaware.

Winter in Canada is not less serious than it is here in South Canada.

Absolutely bloody disgusting. Typical for this government to screw any young person looking for a career in flying. What sucker would come to a low wage high tax place like chinada? Oh wait i think i know. Stay out of tall buildings folks

And keep in mind that pilots often tend to say what they think, sometimes with a relatively clear headed view. And last I heard, freedom of speech in Canada and much of Europe is becoming like China and North Korea with the United States and it’s political correctness not far behind. This might be an issue to consider.

Can we get some new GA mechanics here in the states? I don’t care if they are from Mars if they are qualified.

Unfortunately the age of LRU’s has created a generation of mechanics who throw parts at problems and swap parts rapidly hoping that will fix the problem instead of pulling out a diagram and tracing out the problem on paper to generate the solution. That works often enough and the pace of operations is fast enough that few are interested in taking the time necessary to do things the old fashioned way.
