Boeing Taps Flightradar24 For ADS-B Data

Flightradar24

Boeing has contracted with Flightradar24 to keep tabs on its massive fleet of aircraft all over the world. The flight tracking system, perhaps best known for its use by influencers keeping tabs on the private aircraft of the rich and famous, is the largest of its type and has more than 55,000 ADS-B receivers maintained by a worldwide network of volunteers. The network gives almost complete global coverage of all aircraft equipped with ADS-B Out. And while following the movements of celebrities may make headlines, the more mundane data it collects in its commercial data services arm is valuable for companies like Boeing.

“This data service is one element of Boeing’s continued innovation and build-out of a robust digital services platform centered around improving fleet performance and maintenance outcomes for our customers,” said Crystal Remfert, senior director digital services, Boeing Global Services. “Flightradar24 data complements our existing advanced analytics capabilities and will help us deliver deeper insights and more value to customers.” Flightradar24 is headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden.

Orwell was prescient. Privacy in your home or vehicles is such a quaint notion …

I wonder how those volunteers providing data to FlightRadar24 feel about it being used by big commercial customers.
