Atlanta Forfeits Federal Airport Funds To Keep DEI Programs

Atlanta Hartsfield Airport operators say they’ll find another way to freshen up the bathrooms at the world’s busiest airport besides agreeing to ending diversity programs. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is reporting the federal government is withholding $37.5 million in airport improvement grants because the city, which operates the airport, won’t comply with federal directives to end DEI programs. There’s actually $57 million on the table, but the feds are saying $20 million is still in play if the city has a change of heart. Taking the money would require ending policies that 25 percent of businesses must be minority-owned and 10 percent owned by women.

The $37.5 million was to be used for bathroom renovations and some paving work on taxiways, but the city says it will find the money elsewhere without hitting taxpayers or squeezing operations. “The city is currently evaluating all options to ensure alignment with our long-held values, local policy, and federal law and we are confident that the airport will be well positioned to receive federal funds in the future,” a spokesman for Mayor Andre Dickens said in a statement. The city says the canceled funding was about 10 percent of this year’s capital improvement budget.

DEI has been around for nearly three-quarters of a century. Until recently, it was considered a Good and Fair Thing for a healthy society, because humans, if left to their own devices, tend to be selfish. I remember the days of the Commie Scare and useless Duck-n-Cover drills. Great presidents unite us against a real threat, mendacious ones divide us with non-existent ones.

Wait… humans are all selfish and we need the government to regulate that? That sounds as useless as the commie scare and duck and cover drills.

On this long wash cycle to bleach out color and break down heterogeneity of dress, Atlanta Hartsfield Airport pulls the knob and stops the agitation long enough to save the feds some money and remove their wardrobe from the unwanted submersion.

Small but solid resistance, nice to see. You fed boys are happy you’re saving some money, right?

Considering that DEI is 90%+ of ATL hires, they have to keep it or shut down for weeks to find competent workers.

The DEI policies are based on minimums (e.g., 25% minority business ownership), not maximums. If ‘DEI is 90%+ of ATL hires’, then they are no doubt already well over the thresholds – no restaffing required.

At least there is one place that refuses to cave. We need a lot more like them. The only people who can save us is us.
