For as long as there is the annual Sun ‘n Fun Aerospace Expo in Lakeland, Florida, there will be pilot gadgets to fly home with. On opening day of the show, Sporty’s was showing off three new products including a portable radio, a new aviator’s watch, and new a ForeFlight training program. AvBrief’s Larry Anglisano stopped over at the Sporty’s tent and caught up with John Zimmerman for a look.

I find it a bit rich that ForeFlight is charging a subscription for a training tool because they are going to “add to this product.” Doesn’t every company update their instructions as new features are released free of charge since no one will see value in the product unless they can learn how to use it? Must be a new ownership MBA pushing for that big promotion.
Back in my training days an “aviator watch” had a sweep second hand. Fifty-two plus years later, I don’t wear a watch. It’s hard for me to imagine the utility of a moving map on a watch face.
Just wait until you are wearing a flexible OLED screen on your forearm complete with a protective cover. It might look like you are an NFL quarterback, but why not?
