‘Air Force Two’ Gets Makeover

The Air Force’s executive transport squadron is getting a new look, and the largest canvas to date to sport the new colors appeared earlier this week. A C-32A, a converted Boeing 757 commonly referred to as Air Force 2 because it’s the vice president’s standard mount, took off from Majors Airport in Greenville, Texas, Tuesday in the color scheme favored by President Donald Trump. Instead of the robin egg’s blue belly under white that was designed by President John F. Kennedy for the first converted 707s, the C-32 now has a dark blue belly under orange and red stripes similar to the mockup of the future Air Force One on the coffee table in the Oval Office. The Air Force has four C-32As.

Majors Airport is the site of an L3 Harris conversion center, and executive aircraft are frequently seen running in and out of there. Some smaller aircraft in that unit have also had the makeover, and it now seems likely that the three planes that will carry the president in the future, first the 747-8 donated by Qatar and the two official VC-25Bs (also derived from 747-8s) that are being built by Boeing, will fly in those colors. Boeing is at least four years behind in delivering the new presidential aircraft and is trying to have them done by 2028, the last year of Trump’s presidency.

Any estimates of cost per makeover?

Too much, when we could have used that money to pay down some of the interests on our national debt.

Not surprisingly, the administration seems determined to push this new livery on multiple aircraft in the government fleet. It was first seen late last year on a Boeing 737-MAX 8 BBJ operated by DHS.

That new color scheme is not an improvement.

Fortunately, Boeing is unlikely to deliver the new planes on schedule. How long will it take the new democrat President to order a complete repaint and to sell the fake AF1 back to some Oligarch with a ego problem?

No likely sale; it would probably cost more to remove the classified systems than the plane would be worth.

installing those systems to work correctly is the hard part, removing them is easy.

Orange? Nothing in the USA is orange, except the fake spray tan. Red, White, and Blue are our colors !

The old color scheme is stately and majestic. This new paint scheme is both garish and ugly.

Hmm, I think the orange is tacky gold..
last time he mixed these colors the planes landed in bankruptcy.
